Title: A BGK model for polyatomic particles

Abstract:

Many of the successful collisional kinetic equations relied heavily on the the assumption that the gas consists of motanomic particles. But most of the cases, gases consist of polyatomic molecules. Efforts to derive Boltzmann type kinetic models soon confront with the difficulty that, since polyatomic molecules can possess arbitrarily complicated structures, it is extremely complicated, or impossible in most of the cases, to write the pre - and post - collision velocities in an explicit form. In search of a tractable model equation for polyatomic gases that avoids such difficulties, a BGK type model was suggested as a generalization of the ellipsoidal BGK model. In this talk, we consider several recent result for this model.
